Over the Road, Whaley Bridge Uniting Church’s charity shop.

‘Over the Road’ is the church shop selling pre-loved clothing, bric-a-brac and collectables. All profits are shared between local and national charities and to aid the Uniting Church’s work in the community. The volunteers pride themselves on being a listening ear for all.

At Over the Road we have a dedicated team of volunteers that includes a Team leader, Deputy, Finance Manager, Management team and governing Trustees.  We are an ethical business with an emphasis on caring, -100% of our income is given away to support charitable works.  As a church-based enterprise, we know how important it is for our customers to have a place where they can call in for a chat, with no pressure to make a purchase.

We pride ourselves that we have time for our customers, that we are the modern equivalent of the corner shop of bygone days, where people can just drop in, knowing that they are welcome. You might come in as a customer but often leave as afriend.

We have been here, in this very same shop, for over 40 years. 2019 saw huge changes for us, with a complete renovation, turning the once very cold, and tired charity shop,(formerly a butchers shop with original cold tilesand floors,) to a place to spend lovely browsing time.  We have a strong presence in the village and areputation for always offering a listening earand support to our customers.

We would never let you go home with something that isn’t rightfor you, just to make a sale.  This relationship with our customers makes usunique and brings people back time and again.  We have a thriving Facebook click and collect sales page and popular blog every Tuesday evening with an ever-increasing membership.  We have a successful eBay shop and close relationships with local businesses in the village.

Things people say about us:

“I can’t do without my Tuesday night Facebook fix”

‘You helped me through a difficult time in my life, thank you for listening”

“This is more like a boutique than a charity shop and itsmells lovely”

“My husband comes every Saturday especially to look at the window display.”

We have a dedicated team of volunteers but are always happy for others to join us.
